... is a landscape painting.
From: €48.00
If you want to spend a pleasant morning walking for 30 min along a Levada (water channel) and strolling in a stunning “English Country Garden”, please join us. The Count of Carvalhal built this private estate in the 19th century, and the Blandy family, known for producing Madeira wine, owns it and still lives here. Plants from all over the world surround the Quinta (manor house or chateau) and private chapel. You will enjoy the display of well-known plant species, such as camellia, magnolia, proteas, succulents, and unusual ones such as Banksia coccinea. It is worth visiting Palheiro Gardens in different seasons. Bulbs, shrubs and herbs all glow in the sun, but the garden is at its best when it blooms with blue flowers. The topiary garden is fascinating, especially the group of peacocks. You may see some Madeira birds like the unique Trocaz pigeon, firecrests, and butterflies. The visit includes tea or coffee and homemade cake in the lovely tea house. You can watch the frogs hopping on and off the Lilly pads, admire the adjacent Palheiro Golf Course and Casa Velha do Palheiro, a Relais & Châteaux Hotel, one of the best golf resorts in Europe and Madeira Garden hotel. If you love magnificent old trees and exotic plants from around the world, this is for you. A gem not to be missed! Please note: since this booking requires confirmation, you do not need to pay at checkout. Reserve your seat now, and if we reach 6 adults paying, we will send an email 24 hours before the tour.
Please consult our FAQs section, where we have the answers to the most asked questions.
We can still pick you up upon an extra charge for hotels out of the city (price per vehicle) or, if you have your car, we can set the time and meeting point in Funchal.

The 30-minutes’ walk along the Levada is easy, and the trail is flat. We do the walk at a reasonable pace, including stopping to take pictures.
After getting the ticket, we will walk downhill for about 10 minutes until the main gardens and, in the end, the same uphill back! Walking in the garden is not difficult because the garden is on a gentle slope, and we will walk at a leisurely pace. An experienced guide will explain the history and background of this extraordinary place. Even those who like to wander around will not regret this guided tour.
Those with limited mobility may find it challenging to walk around in the garden.
Well-kept paths access the gardens, but there is some uneven walking on the traditional cobbled paths, as well as steps. Using sticks is not a problem, but wheelchairs may have problems.
Children:
The garden is suitable for children to be accompanied and supervised by adults at all times.

Madeira island holidays are the ideal getaway all year round. Madeira weather in coastal areas is temperate and mild with no great extremes-although the temperature can drop the higher you go on the island so, whatever time of year you visit, be sure to bring warm clothes when visiting the mountains. Obviously, rainfall is higher in the winter and you’ll probably need to pack a raincoat or umbrella. Madeira’s average temperatures range from 18C in winter to 25C in summer, with sea temperatures being nearly the same due to a warm Gulf Stream that surrounds the Island all year round, 18C to 22C.
The dress code for our tours is comfortable and casual. Dressing in layers gives most comfort as you can shed and add items when the climate varies. Consider packing.
Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your Tourist Guide will modify the tour, so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to have an umbrella on hand.
