All about the Madeira Wine Tour.

On this 7-hour tour, your guide will share her fondness for the local food and wine. We’ll start with a visit to the famous Madeira Wine Lodge in the historical centre of Funchal. You will learn about the various varieties of fortified wine, the winemaking processes and how to taste and appreciate it. You’ll also understand why Madeira has earned its international reputation as a top wine-producing region. Next, we’ll leave Funchal and head towards two of the region’s most successful and contrasting vineyards. It includes a 20-minute walk along a lovely flat “Levada” path with views over the green hills and the terraced mosaic vineyards. You will also understand the different terroir we can only find on this island, the ingenious techniques used by farmers to overcome their challenges, and the reasons for driving the vines on a trellis (espalier). Later, you will deepen your knowledge by interacting with a local wine grower who will tell you about the history of the territory and the production of the various table wines that you can enjoy paired with food. On your return to your hotel in Funchal, you can sit back and relax, or your guide will be happy to answer any further questions. We know the best places and ways to make your visit memorable! Please note: since this booking requires confirmation, you do not need to pay at checkout. Reserve your seat now, and if we reach 6 adults paying, we will send an email 24 hours before the tour.

If you are happy with the service you receive, it’s customary to tip your driver and Tourist guide. This is entirely at your discretion.

Madeira weather in coastal areas is temperate and mild with no great extremes-although the temperature can drop the higher you go on the island so, whatever time of year you visit, be sure to bring warm clothes when visiting the mountains. Obviously, rainfall is higher in the winter and you’ll probably need to pack a rain coat or umbrella. Madeira’s average temperatures range from 18C in winter to 25C in summer, with sea temperatures being nearly the same due to a warm Gulf Stream that surrounds the Island all year round, 18C to 22C. Madeira island holidays are the ideal getaway all year round!

Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your Tourist Guide will modify the tour so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to have an umbrella on hand.
