Overview
If you are fit, come with us and enjoy a fantastic coastal walk for a 3–4 hour round trip. PONTA DE SÃO LOURENÇO is a unique area with a painting-like scenery on the easternmost tip of Madeira. There is a feel of wilderness and a wide range of little plants and birdlife. You can stand at the top of sheer cliffs and marvel at the seascapes at various points. Every corner you turn, there will be another breathtaking view of both the northern and the southern coasts of Madeira. From the Morro do Furado, you will see the lighthouse in the distance and the neighbouring islands of Desertas and Porto Santo. Do not miss this incredible place – it’s a must! This walk is an opportunity to step back in time with evidence of the volcanic turmoil, the geomorphological processes and the struggle by plants and animals to grab a foothold on a beautiful but hostile landscape. Such rugged terrain for hikers you do not find everywhere. BOOK NOW!

What do you need to bring?Don't forget
You should bring non-slip walking boots or sports footwear, a camera, and a coat or a jumper if it gets cooler.
We also suggest taking your swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and hat if you want to swim—only in summer and if safety conditions permit.
Take a bag to carry your litter away with you.
If you haven’t purchased a picnic, we remind you to reserve enough water and food, as there is nothing available on the route.
If rain is forecast, bring a raincoat or poncho and a wind protection coat, as it gets very windy there.
Walking poles might be a help.
Children: Parents must bring a hiking child carrier backpack to carry their children under 4.
Good to KnowActivity level
This walk is unsuitable for people with vertigo problems; Parts of the path are narrow with a steep drop on one side, but most have a barrier running alongside. There are some steps and narrow sections to overcome. There is only a toilet halfway at Cais do Sardinha. They charge you 1 euro, though.
Children:
Not recommended for children under 9.
SecurityDon't take risks
Better to go with a guide and relax, instead of getting lost in the mountains of Madeira. Knowing that the mountain guide activates the emergency system is reassuring if you fall or feel unwell. He/she sends a warning and the group’s location to the local authorities, enabling a quick rescue. All well worth the money for the hike.
