All about South Tour Madeira

On South tour Madeira We will go first to the southwest of the island, to Madalena do Mar and visit a banana plantation where you will have the opportunity to learn how bananas grow. We will then head up through fields and forests to Paul da Serra. To explore the area, we’ll take a 10-minutes’ walk along one of the ancient channels named levadas that carry water to distant fields.

Later, you will stroll through winding, cobbled streets in two of the most enchanting and typical villages in Madeira. Paul do Mar is still a traditional fishing village, and a wander around the fishermen’s houses and port is fascinating. Besides, there are tiny restaurants where you can stop for lunch. Later in Jardim do Mar you’ll love the small colourful gardens and the impressive cliff views.

What do you need to bring?

Comfortable walking shoes, camera, and a coat or a jacket if it gets cooler.

We also suggest taking your swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen in case you want to take a swim on the beach (Paul do Mar). Only in summer and if safety conditions permit.

A raincoat or poncho if rain is in the forecast.

Hotel Pickup (Departure time)

Visit a banana plantation and actually learn about banana growing.

Then, walk for 10-minutes along a Levada in an area of exceptional natural beauty. These are canals that cover around 3150 km of the island to carry water to distant fields. Regarding Levadas, it have applied for the World Heritage Status by UNESCO.

Later, stop for photographs while appreciate the superb scenery. 

Paul do Mar
Before lunch, stroll through the village, the fishermen’s houses, the seafront and the fishing harbour. More importantly, enjoy time for lunch.

Jardim do Mar
Afterwards, walk through the narrow stone paved streets arranged in flower patterns, the small houses with colourful gardens and the impressive cliff views.

Ponta do Sol
