Overview
This full-day wine experience combines learning, tasting and relaxation in one of Madeira’s most beautiful wine-growing regions. Ideal for travellers seeking to connect more deeply with local culture and gastronomy, this tour offers the chance to explore two carefully selected wineries, each with a distinct approach to wine production—from traditional Madeira fortified wines to modern table wines (white, red, and rosé).
We start the day at one of Madeira’s most important vine-growing areas, where vines are still cultivated in the traditional latada system. With a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll learn about the island’s winemaking history and the unique terroir that gives Madeira wine its character. You’ll taste a total of 12 wines, including 4 Madeira wines, 8 table wines, and a sample of local rum.
The tour finishes in São Vicente, where you’ll sit down for a relaxed 3-course lunch right in the heart of the vineyards. It includes a welcome apéritif and digestif, allowing you to enjoy the scenery while savouring the region’s finest produce. With a focus on authenticity, sustainability, and local partnerships, this tour goes beyond simple wine tasting. It offers an opportunity to engage with Madeiran culture, meet the people behind the wines and enjoy the best of local hospitality.

Behind the tourWhat travellers say after they’ve done it
I joined this wine tour because I wanted something genuine — not staged or touristy. I had a basic interest in Madeira wine but didn’t want a lecture. Just a well-organised day with real people and good wine. That’s exactly what I got.
From the start, it felt like a small group of travellers rather than a tour. We drove through beautiful landscapes — valleys, vineyards, narrow hillside roads. It was the kind of scenery you only get when locals know the way.
We visited two wine producers. Both were different, and that made it interesting. The tastings were spaced out, easy to follow, and surprisingly varied. I discovered wines I hadn’t tried before, without pressure to buy or pretend to be an expert.
Lunch was served indoors, but with wide glass windows that gave us a full view of the valley. It felt relaxed and special at the same time. The food was honest and local, and the wine pairing was spot on. Nothing complicated — just good ingredients, well presented, and served with care.
I liked that it wasn’t rushed. We had time to ask questions, take in the atmosphere, and enjoy the day without constantly checking the clock.
Would I recommend it? Yes. It’s well planned, relaxed, and feels personal. A great way to understand the wine culture of Madeira — and enjoy a proper lunch while you’re at it.
